Coaching Staff


We are blessed to have so many experienced coaches, that have played, taught and loved the game for numerous years. These coaches come from diverse backgrounds in the volleyball community ranging from former collegiate players, past and current high school coaches, and former collegiate assistant and head coaches. We strive to bring in quality coaches that will bring the energy and passion of their love for the game into our gym and practices. Please read about them and their backgrounds below.


CLUB ADMINISTRATION

Lloy Ball

Owner, Director and Coach

4-time Olympian, 2008 Gold Medalist, 16 years professional with 15 European Titles. Voted Best Setter and Server in the World and inducted into the 2015 Volleyball Hall of Fame. Current Head Varsity Coach at Angola High School since 2016.

Rachelle Gilbert Cooper

Head Assistant Club Director/Ball Sports Academy Services & Operations Manager

Rachelle was our site director at DeKalb last year and has joined our full-time staff as the Head Assistant Club Director of Team Pineapple and BSA Services and Operations Manager. Rachelle went to DeKalb High School. She was a 4 year varsity player there and was MVP in 2007. Rachelle was voted NHC All-Conference ('05, '06, '07). Rachelle played college volleyball at Mount Ida College NCAA DIII. She was a 3 year MVP and Team Captain. She was rookie of the year in 2009, finished #8 in the schools All Time Offensive Points, and made the 2000-2010 All Decade Team after one season.

Rachelle's has coached at all high school levels including Freshman, JV, and Assisted Varsity at DeKalb HS (2013-15) and has served as JV coach at Angola High School from 2015-2020. She coached club volleyball at: Smash VBC (2008-13), Empowered VBA (2014), and Team Pineapple (2015-Present). She was the Head Coach of the 15 Green team this last season where the team were Champions at the Queen of the Coaster tournament and at the All Volleyball Midwest Series Finale. Rachelle resides in the Angola area with her husband Luke and their daughter Auden.

Jeremy Thornburg

Associate Club Director/Director of Programming and BSA Events

Jeremy is the most recent full-time member to our Team Pineapple Volleyball staff. On top of being a Master Coach for us, he will be in charge of all programming, camps and clinics, director of all BSA events, and assisting with operations. He began his volleyball career at then IPFW as a team manager and then student assistant coach to Hall of Fame Coach Arnie Ball, father of Club Director Lloy Ball. He was a member of the 2006 Final Four Team and the 2007 Team that were National Runner's-Up in the NCAA Men's Volleyball Championships. As a part of that team, he was inducted into the Mastodon Athletics Hall of Fame.

Coach Jeremy has experience at all levels collegiately, with club volleyball, and with USA Volleyball and multiple collegiate camps. He had stops with women's collegiate programs at Arkansas Staet University and Eckerd College. In 2014, he was hired to start the men's volleyball program at Loras College. He was the head coach for 6 seasons along with assisting the women's program, with 2020 being cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. His last two full seasons he had a record of 35-18 and led the teams to the conference tournaments with multiple all-conference team members.

Jeremy has also coached with Optimum Volleyball Club, USA Volleyball, Iowa Region High Performance teams, and at multiple collegiate camps. He recently was an assistant with the Goshen College and Trine University men's volleyball programs. He will be the Head Coach of the 15 Green team for the 2021-22 club season.

Kourtney Crawford

Assistant Director/ Recruiting Director/ Master Coach

Kourtney has been a coach at Team Pineapple since 2019, and made the transition to Assistant Director in 2022. Kourtney over sees scheduling, coach development, certifications, and social media. 

Kourtney is originally from Indianapolis where she attended Bishop Chatard High School and was a three sport (volleyball, basketball, track) athlete. She went on to earn a volleyball scholarship to play at the University of Indianapolis NCAA DII. 

As a member of the Greyhound volleyball team, Kourtney and her senior classmates still hold the winningest record in school history with a 121-27 (.818) record. She was the starting right-side hitter when the team went to the Final Four in 2012. 

Coach Kourtney's coaching career began at the age of 19; coaching at a small club in Indianapolis and freshmen mens volleyball. She found a passion for teaching and volleyball and loved that coaching was a mix of both. Coach Kourtney has coached several club teams, high school girls volleyball, and spent 4 years at Goshen College as the head coach. She is currently one of the assistant coaches at Angola High School. 

In 2023, her 18 Green team went on to win the Asics Navy Pier Nationals national championship; going undefeated and not dropping a set. Also, in 2023 Kourtney was named the AVCA 18s Club Coach of the Year. This upcoming season Kourtney will coach the 17/18 Black team.


CLUB COACHING STAFF

Arnie Ball

40 years of coaching experience. Arnie will act as a consultant/mentor to all our coaches. Arnie is in the AVCA HOF, he led the IPFW Volley Dons to 6 NCAA Final Fours. Arnie consults all of our teams and will be seen at practices.

katie carbaugh

Coach Katie is from New Haven, Indiana. She is currently a freshman at Trine University where she plays outside hitter on the volleyball team; while also majoring in elementary education to further become a teacher and coach. Played volleyball for 11 years starting at Fort Wayne Volleyball Club in 2014, and later playing as a varsity starter at New Haven High School while finishing off club at Empowered Volleyball Academy. Coach Katie is extremely excited for the opportunity to start her coaching career here at Team Pineapple where she will be co-coaching 15 White! 

MEGAN CONNER

Coach Megan is from Russiaville, Indiana. She is a freshman at Trine majoring in chemical engineering. Megan was a setter for her high school and club teams. She is very excited to be assisting the 12 Green  team. 

madison dominick

Coach Madi is from Swartz Creek Michigan. She is is currently a junior, right-side at Trine University where she is studying Exercise Science. She has been playing volleyball for 7 years. Madi is very excited for this upcoming season coaching at Team Pineapple. Coach Madi will be assisting 13 green this season.

Mike FinEfrock

Mike is in his 8th year as an assistant coach at Carroll High School in Ft. Wayne.  He has been a part of Team Pineapple for last 6 seasons as either an assistant coach or head coach, sometimes both.  Last season he was the head coach for our very successful 12 Green team.  For the 2023-24 club season he will be coaching the 13 Black team and assisting with the 18 Boys team. 

justen gerber 

Justen is a second year coach with Team Pineapple. Previously he coached at NIVA for two years. Coach Gerber was the head coach for Saint Johns Lutheran in Kendallville, IN for three years. This year he will co-coach the 11 Green team and assist the 11 White team.

MEGAN GROSS

This is Coach Megan’s first year at Team Pineapple! Coach Megan is relatively new to the area as she is originally from Bay City, MI. She has played AAU volleyball for 5 years in the open division, the highest level of AAU competition. She attended Central High School in Bay City, MI- where she played 4 years of varsity volleyball. She’s earned many volleyball awards, 1st & 2nd team honors, tournament wins, and played in a state championship game throughout her high school career for the City, County, League, and State. Coach Megan also went on to play for Albion College in 2023.

This will be Megan’s first season coaching, and she is super excited to begin her coaching career with Team Pineapple! Coach Megan brings her experience and knowledge of what it means to be a versatile player and hard worker to the passionate players in our gym. She will be head coaching 14 White this club season!

Lisa “Cheeks” Hormann

Cheeks has a storied volleyball history as a player, coach, and mentor for our director Lloy Ball. She began her career at IPFW under Coach Arnie Ball. As a player, Cheeks had a stellar career as she is still the individual season record holder and career record holder in service aces for the Mastodons. She was a member of the first GLVC Championship winning team in 1984. After her career as a player, she became a member of the coaching staff and then Head Coach of the Women's Volleyball team for 4 seasons with an overall record of 87-50. For all of her accomplishments, she was inducted into the Purdue Fort Wayne Athletics Hall of Fame in 2010.

Cheeks has never lost the coaching bug, and has been a part of our coaching staff since Team Pineapple's inception. She coached one of our 16U Open teams last year, where they won the TP Classic and Smack series event. She and her husband Roger have been married for 28 years and reside in the Fort Wayne area.  This season Coach Cheeks will be assisting our 16 Black team.

MADDIE HOELSCHER

Coach Maddie is in her first year coaching at Pineapple! She has played volleyball for 12 years. She attended St. Phil where she helped lead the team to two back-to-back state championships, 2 Regional titles and 4 District titles. Maddie played club at Redline Volleyball Club for 8 years where I helped lead the team to many tournament championships. She is currently a freshman at Trine University playing volleyball. This season she will be co-coaching the 15 White team. 

kim krebs

Coach Krebs is back at Team Pineapple! She played varsity volleyball. She has over 23 years of coaching experience at different levels. Coach Krebs coached Prairie Heights High School Volleyball,  Middle School and Freshman Volleyball for East Noble. She moved to Colorado and continued her coaching career. She coached at Webber Middle School Volleyball in Ft Collins, Colorado. Coach Krebs currently coaches at Prairie Heights Middle School whose 7th grade won the NECC championship in 2023. This year she will be co-coaching the 13 Green team.

laura stegall

Coach Laura is a Fort Wayne native and former Purdue Fort Wayne Volleyball and basketball standout (1997-2002).  Stegall launched two collegiate volleyball programs.  She laid the foundation of success for Indiana Tech, earning 2006 WHAC Coach of the Year honors following Tech’s first NAIA Regional appearance in just the program’s second season.  After moving to Florida, Stegall had the opportunity to launch another collegiate program.  In her eight seasons at Daytona State College, the Falcons were ranked in the top 25 seven consecutive seasons.  In 2019, Stegall was recognized as the AVCA Southeast Region Coach of the Year.  Stegall is excited to return to Fort Wayne and help foster the development of athletes in the community.  This season she will be the head coach of our 12 Green team.

patrick tolin

This will be Coach Tolin's 6th season with Team Pineapple. He has coached club volleyball for 11years. He has also coached previously at Trine University for two seasons and had stops at Shelbyville and Cardinal Ritter High Schools. Previously, Pat was also the recruiting director here at Team Pineapple. This upcoming season he will be the Head Coach for the 17 Green team.

katlyn walker

Coach Walker has been coaching volleyball for the past 9 years. She was the North Central (OH) 7th grade coach for 4 years. She was the coach at Edon for 3 years and now she is the Head Coach at North Central. This will be Coach Walker's third season coaching with Team Pineapple and coaching our 16 Green team for the 2023-24 club season.

Sarah Ball

Sarah has been a coach with Team Pineapple for 7 years serving in the capacity as an assistant or head coach, working mostly with the younger 10-13U Pineapple Teams.  Sarah is the BSA Pro Shop and Concessions Director.

Sarah served as an assistant/co-coach at Angola Middle School for 3 years with the 6th grade team and has been the head coach for 7th grade for the past 2 years and leading the team to a 25-2 season, winning the Jr. NECC title.  In 2021, Sarah was named Assistant Varsity coach at Angola High School. This club season, Sarah will be a "floating" assistant coach that help runs practices and fills in for other coaches when needed.

Kelsey Closson

Kelsey was a former setter and 4-year member of the Spring Arbor University volleyball program. She has been the Head Volleyball Coach at Coldwater HS in Coldwater, MI for the past 9 years and will continue coaching the Lady Cardinals again in the fall. She has been coaching for Team Pineapple for the last 6 seasons. Last season she was the head coach of our 14 Black team and the 2023-24 club season will see her as the 15 Green team head coach.

Lindsey decamp

This is Coach Decamp's 6th season working for Team Pineapple. Lindsey played collegiately at Trine University. She has coached multiple levels and teams throughout her tenure. This year she is the freshman head coach for New Haven volleyball. For the 2023-24 season she will be coaching the 15 Yellow team.

kassidy faler

Coach Kassidy is from Pioneer, Ohio. She is currently a sophomore at Goshen College where she is studying education and biology. Kassidy is also a libero for the women's volleyball team at Goshen, she also is a member of the track team. She has played volleyball for 11 years and has helped run clinics for Pineapple previously. She is excited to continue her coaching career this year at TP! Coach Kassidy will be assisting 17 green this season.

lydia gard

Lydia was a three year starter at the University of Illinois from 1997-2001.  After college, Lydia played one season professionally and helped her team secure the league championship. Lydia has an extensive coaching background; having served as summer camp coach for over 20 years, over 15 years as a club coach, and 12 years as varsity volleyball coach. Lydia is married to her high school sweetheart, Derek.  They have four amazing kids. Coach Lydia will be coaching the 14 Black team.

Chris Gisslen

2010 IPFW HOF, 2-time All American at IPFW and Member of the USA National Team 2001-2003. Chris has been a mainstay at TP for the past five years. Last year he coached our 13 Black team, that won multiple events last season including the AAU Lakeshore Regional Championship, the 2021 Ft. Wayne President's Day tournament, and multiple All Volleyball power series titles.

Coach Gisslen led our Team Pineapple 13 Black team to the highest finish at AAU Nationals for any of our club teams, a 3rd place in the open division. This season he will be assisting our 18 Black team.

melissa hamilton

Coach Hamilton graduated from Angola High School and played defensive specialist at the varsity level all 4 years of high school. Her coaching experience started 13 years ago. Coach Hamilton coached 8th grade and assisted with the school club program at a local school for 10 seasons. She took a 2 year break to spend time with her family. When she's not on the sidelines coaching, Coach Hamilton is a nurse and married with 2 children, a 19 yr old and 14 yr old. She is excited to be coming back to coaching. She is very passionate about volleyball and teaching the fundamentals and the love for the game. Coach believes that hard work and determination meet with success! Coach Hamilton enters her first season for Team Pineapple as an assistant coach for 14 Black.

NICOLE HODGMAN

This will be Coach Nicole’s first year coaching at Team Pineapple. She has 13 years of playing experience, including being a 4 year starter at Bishop Luers High School and Prep Sports player of the year her senior season. She also played 4 years of collegiate volleyball as an outside hitter at IPFW, where she graduated with an elementary education degree. Since graduating she has spent the last 15 years coaching different age groups at camps, clinics, schools, and clubs across the Fort Wayne area. She will be the assistant for the 15 Black team. 

Aleena Keh

Coach Keh is from South Haven, Michigan. She is currently a sophomore at Trine University where she is studying study exercise science working toward a doctrine in physical therapy. Aleena is also an outside hitter for the women's volleyball team at Trine. She has played volleyball for 11 years and is very blessed and excited to continue her coaching career this year at Pineapple! Coach Aleena will be assisting the 14 Green team.

Payton Hunley

This is Coach Payton's first year at Team Pineapple! She comes with 11 years of playing experience; high school, club, and college volleyball. Coach Payton holds four records at East Noble, where she is currently the head coach in her first season.  When she attended East Noble she was selected All-Conference and All-Area three out of the four years. After high school, Payton attended Bethel University where she was an outside hitter. Her junior and senior year she achieved Crossroads League All-Conference honors. In 2020, she helped her team win the National Christian College Athlete Association National Championship. She has coached at NIVA, Impact VB, Bethel University; where she was awarded NCCAA Assistant Coach of the Year in 2021. Coach Payton will coach 17/18 Green with year. She currently works at the Dekko Foundation and resides in Kendallville with her husband and two German shepherds.

Katie probst

Coach Probst is going into her fourth season coaching with Team Pineapple after coaching the 10 White team last season. She previously coached at  East Noble High School for four years. This season, Katie will be coaching our 11 Green team.

Bobbie Thompson

Coach Bobbie is well-known in the Northeast Indiana area for her coaching varsity in the NECC for 14 years that included winning multiple state tournaments at the Sectional & Regional level, varsity assistant at Angola for 5 years, and coaching club (11U to 17U) for over 10 years (last 8 years with Team Pineapple).   She has over 28 years of coaching experience at both the high school and club levels.  Bobbie has multiple first place (including winning the 2022 Asics National Championships in Chicago) and runner up finishes to her credit in her years at Pineapple. For the 2023-24 club season, Bobbie will be coaching one of our 16 Black teams.

ANNA zellers

Coach Anna is from Greencastle, Indiana. She is a freshman at Trine University, majoring in Elementary and Special Education. Coach Anna is working towards becoming a teacher and a coach. She is also a setter on the Trine women's volleyball team. Anna's mom coaches college volleyball at DePauw University, so she grew up being a gym rat. She has been playing volleyball for nine years and absolutely loves it. Coach Anna is so excited to continue her coaching career this year at Team Pineapple! She will be the head coach of the 14 Green team.
